Our Lady warned the three children at Fatima –‘ War is the punishment for sin’

We are in WWIII. President George Bush Jnr said as much back in 2005, and Pope Francis said the same in 2013. In the first week of June 2024, Germany and the US gave Ukraine permission to use their weapons to strike inside Russia, and France is considering sending troops to Ukraine. The Middle East is a tragedy, and one can never rule out a confrontation between China and Taiwan. And North Korea? Let’s pray no country uses nuclear weapons – there is no such thing as a limited nuclear war. It makes little difference who started down this path. Our Lady warned the children at Fatima in 1917, ‘war is the punishment for sin’. A hundred years later, the world is awash with every type of sin imaginable. For this reason, we all share some of the responsibility for this calamitous situation. Unless the world turns back to God; humbly asks for forgiveness and mercy; and cries out in one voice to heaven to help end this madness, we must accept the consequences – the possible annihilation of a great part of humanity.

Pope Benedict XV, who reigned during WWI, gave us the perfect example to follow. Pope Benedict XV labelled WWI, (the way to end all wars,) ‘the suicide of civilized Europe’. In 1917 with WWI dragging on and no end in sight, he proposed a seven-point peace plan ‘to the heads of the belligerent people’. When the leaders rejected Pope Benedict’s peace plan, he turned to heaven and gave Our Lady a new title – Mary, Queen of Peace. The Pope wrote a letter to Catholics throughout the world, asking them to join him in a Novena, imploring Mary, Queen of Peace, to intercede for humanity. Our Blessed Mother heard Her children’s prayers, and before the Novena was even completed, She appeared to three young children at Fatima, Portugal on 13th May 1917. Our Lady asked the children to pray the Rosary every day and return to the Cova da Iria for the next five months. On October the 13th approx. 70,000 people, many atheists and freethinkers, witnessed the great Miracle of the Sun. WWI ended in 1918.

Pope Benedict XV’s Letter

‘Our earnestly pleading voice, invoking the end of the vast conflict, the suicide of civilized Europe, was then and has remained ever since unheard. Indeed, it seemed that the dark tide of hatred grew higher and wider among the belligerent nations and drew the countries into its frightful sweep, multiplying ruin and massacre. Nevertheless, Our confidence was not lessened….Since all Graces which the Author of all good deigns to grant to the poor children of Adam, by a loving design of His Divine Providence are dispensed through the hands of the most holy Virgin, we wish that the petition of Her most afflicted children more than ever in this terrible hour, may turn with lively confidence to the August Mother of God’.

‘To Mary, then, who is the Mother of Mercy and omnipotent by grace, let loving and devout appeal go up from every corner of the earth – from noble temples and tiniest chapels, from royal palaces and mansions of the rich as from the poorest hut – from blood-drenched plains and seas. Let it bear to Her the anguished cry of mothers and wives, the wailing of little innocent ones, the sighs of the generous heart; that her most tender and benign solicitude may be moved and the peace we ask for be obtained for our agitated world’.

DAY 1

Almighty Father, we humbly and sincerely ask that you hear our heartfelt prayers and stop WWIII.

DAY 2

Almighty God, may we always pray for, and help the victims of wars and natural disasters.

DAY 3

Lord God, let us pray for all religious and political leaders. May You give them the grace, humility, wisdom and courage to end the aggression and broker peace, which is so desperately needed in our troubled and fallen world.

DAY 4

Heavenly Father, we pray for peace throughout the world, in our homes, in our families, and in our communities and countries, but most especially in our own hearts.

DAY 5

Almighty Father, may you send Your Holy Spirit to renew the face of the earth. Help us break the chains of sin and darkness and lead us into Truth and light.

DAY 6

Lord Jesus, we pray for the poor, the sick, those in prison, the lonely, the marginalized, those suffering from addictions and suicidal thoughts. May they bring their sufferings to the foot of Your cross.

DAY 7

Heavenly Father, we pray for healing for those who have experienced the trauma and wounds of family breakdown, divorce, and all forms of violence, for example domestic violence, child abuse and abortion.

DAY 8

Almighty Father, we humbly ask that You have mercy on your sinful and wayward children. Let us all turn back to Christ the King.

DAY 9

Lord Jesus, You are Merciful and Just. We resolve to turn back to You and make atonement for our sins.
